PDC CLUB RECOMMENDS
At the upcoming meeting we will have one of our very own
members, Jim Brandt, speak about the book he authored,
"Polly Dicta - giving real democracy a voice". Jim was the
Democratic nominee for the 46th Congressional District
in 2004 and 2006. Jim did not win his bid in either
election. The 46th District is overwhelmingly
Republican and with the way it was designed, it
has many people saying that "Gerrymandering was
taken to a new art form". Jim will be selling and signing his book at our meeting.

At the last meeting no formal program was planned. Instead we had our
traditional roundtable discussion about the results of
the June 8, 2010 election. Many people felt it was
cathartic! We found out who the Democrats of the
year are in the 55th and 54th A.D.s. In the 55th A.D.
club Alene Harrris and Raul Murga are the female and
male Honerees, respectively and Robert Brandin is the
male Honoree in the 54th A. D. The club voted to pay for the tickets for Alene
and Raul, and the San Pedro Democratic club is picking up the tab for Robert.
The Franklin Delano and Eleanor Roosevelt Democrat of the Year awards
dinner will be at the Sheraton Universal in Universal City, CA. The date of
the event will be Sunday, August 22, 2010, with reception at 6:00 p.m. and
the dinner/awards program commencing at 7:00 p.m. The club is planning
on having one to two tables in order to show support of our Honorees. At
the time of this posting there is not an exact ticket price. However, any one planning on attending can be assured that the ticket price will not exceed $100. If you are interested in attending the event, please contact your Prez as soon as possible (contact information below).
Also at the June meeting we approved of a resolution in support of the Coalition for Clean and Safe Ports to be sent to theCalifornia Democratic Party's E-Board meeting in July for ratification. We also edited and approved letters to be sent to Congresswoman Harman and Richardson, and Senators Boxer and Feinstien about the club's outrage with the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. What a tragedy! We also formed a committee to research additional meeting venues. We hope to have a report in time for the next meeting. If anybody has any photos or picture they want posted in the upcoming photo gallery please forward them to Raul .
